Description
For day 160 of a 365 day challenge of one new image a day, I’m posting a previously unposted image of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison in Colorado that I found in my archives and edited for the challenge.
According to the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park website, the deepest point of the canyon is at Warner Point and there it is 2,722 feet down to the river. The Gunnison river itself runs 48 miles, and 14 miles of that run through the national park. The canyon is a beautiful example of erosion and several types of metamorphic rock, that is rock that has been under pressure for millions of years causing the rock from heat and pressure to change its chemical composition and its appearance. There are beautiful pink stripes of quartz and other minerals streaking across the canyon walls. I found it fascinating and very beautiful. I hope you enjoy this image.
