Description
The original Fort Gratiot Lighthouse built at about the current location of the the Blue Water Bridge in Port Huron was built in 1825 and eventually collapsed into Lake Huron in a storm. The current lighthouse was built in 1829 north of its previous location as the oldest operating lighthouse in Michigan, and was extended to its current height of 82 feet in the early 1860s. It is one of the few currently still-operating lighthouses in the US that still allows tours to access the top of the tower.
