Artist's Description

The building on this hiking trail in Groton, Massachusetts was started by General William Bancroft as a retirement home but he sold the property in 1918 to Harold Ayers who used it as a private sanitarium. In the 1930s the building was used by the Groton Hunt Club. It eventually burned down and all that is left is the stone portion of the observation tower and some of the walls.

About Mary Bedy

Mary Bedy

I have been wandering around with my camera for over 30 years. Everything interests me. Little tiny buds in the forest, vast panoramic landscapes, interesting old buildings, and silent snowy woods. I have had the honor of having a photo of Fort Michilimackinac in Mackinaw City, Michigan chosen for the December 2015 cover of Michigan History magazine. Indeed, as a life-long Michigander, in my portfolio you will find many images of our lovely Michigan shorelines, the Freighters that sail the Great Lakes, Michigan landmark locations such as Mackinac Island, Belle Isle, Greenfield Village, and more. I also had an image chosen in July of 2020 and again in 2021 to be included in the publication "Our Magnificent Planet" by Lenswork...
