Description
A former British and American fort starting in the late 1700s. It was build by the British during the Revolutionary War to control the Straights of Mackinac.
It served as an outpost for the US Army in the 19th century. It was closed in 1895 and is now a museum.
The Historic state park of Mackinac Island does not allow any motorized vehicles aside from Police and emergency personnel. Thus, many people rent bicycles to get around while visiting, or they use one of the horse-drawn taxis.
